Another Prestigious Award for Youth Club

On Tuesday 12th March a group of five young people from the Isabella Centre Youth Club attended the Northumberland Clubs for Young People - Projects with Pride Award ceremony. This was held at the Beacon Centre in Newcastle where one of our young people Demi Lee Maddison received a Young Achievers Award.

She was nominated by the youth team workers for her outstanding work as a junior volunteer.

Back in November of last year the South-East Northumberland Youth Service gave youth clubs in the area £100 each and asked them to devise and implement a scheme for which the money could be invested and turned into profit.

The young people of the Blyth Isabella Centre youth club made Christmas items which they sold at two Christmas fayres as well as to clients of Age UK Northumberland. A profit of £134 was achieved.

The Isabella group came second in the top six of the highest profit makers. This meant the young people were invited to go through to the next stage of the competition held at Longhirst Hall, where all the groups had to explain to a panel of judges, in imitation of the BBC Dragon's Den TV programme,  the process they went through in order to make a profit.

The judges decided that the group from the Isabella Youth Project gave the best presentation. The youth group were awarded first prize of £200 which will be spent on equipment for the Youth Project at the Isabella Centre.
