PIT HEAP IMPROVEMENT SENSE II PROJECT - LATEST

Work is now beginning on the project to improve the "Bella Heap". This is being driven by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust (NWT) and funded by the Banks Mining Group. A greater detail of this project was given in the  CFIRA newsletter of October 2010 which can be read by clicking this link http://bit.ly/aL4CtF

Anthony Johnston from the NWT has met with various groups of residents on a number of occasions. This has resulted in a group congregating last Thursday to walk and survey the site who then gave local insight and suggestions to Anthony.

Anthony has obtained two picnic tables and benches. Residents have directed him as to where they should be placed. They should be in position within 2-3 weeks. Hopefully this should be an encouraging sign to residents that work is being undertaken and that people do care about the appearance and the amenities of the area.

Other suggestions for year one of this three year project are: thinning of the trees to enable easier removal of litter, better security and to discourage anti-social behaviour; thinning of trees around paths to aid drying out, as they are often quagmires; Interpretation boards; environmental projects for the youngsters, including bird/bat box erection and litter removal.

The project is a partnership, with residents having the greater voice on what improvements would be best for our area. If you feel you would like to find out more, get involved or make a suggestion contact:
